Rachel Dinwiddie

Overview

Rachel Dinwiddie (b.1999, Monterey, CA) makes luminous paintings and awkward sculptures. Her practice involves making strange the familiar, drawing from memory, observation, and imagination. Her work is full of creatures and objects in fantastical situations, defined by excessive, explosive compositions.  


Dinwiddie received her BFA in 2020 from School of the Art, Institute of Chicago. She has exhibited work at Young Space (2020, 2021) online; Benjamin Parsons Gallery (2022) Oxford, UK; Visions West Contemporary (2023) Livingston, MT;  Wavelength Space (2023) in Chattanooga TN; Visionary Projects (2023) in Chelsea NY; and la Beast gallery, Los Angeles, California (2024). Dinwiddie is the recipient of the Scholastic Art and Writing Award, National Silver Medal in Painting (2017); 2017 SAIC BFA Merit Scholarship (2017); and SAIC Competitive Excellence Award (2017). Dinwiddie lives and works in San Diego, California.
