Biography

Alexis Branger (b. 1989 Lincoln Heights, California) is a first generation South American, her family is from the Caribbean coast of Barranquilla, Colombia and the capital of Venezuela in Caracas. Honoring her native roots, Branger draws inspiration from the bold colors emblematic of Latin-American culture, translating these vibrant hues into abstract interpretations of the rich landscapes and biodiversity of Colombia and Venezuela. Through her practice, Branger seeks to bridge the gap between the distinct cultures that comprise her heritage as well as express her unique experience existing in flux between them. Treating her process as an exploration, Branger incorporates her discoveries into a world of playful textures and materials. Her painting “Paisajes Texturizados (Textured Landscapes)” was made using a combination of acrylic paint, latex, joint compound, and spray texture on canvas and exemplifies Branger’s mission of distilling the essence of her two cultures into one cohesive experience.
